How do I become a Remote Online Notary (RON) in Pennsylvania?

Updated Apr 21, 2026 40 views 1 min read

To perform Remote Online Notarizations (RON) in Pennsylvania, you don't need additional formal training beyond your notary commission, but you must follow a specific process with the Department of State.

Here's what you need to do:

  1. Hold an active PA notary commission
  2. Choose a Department-approved RON technology provider from the official list (popular options include Proof, DocuSign Notary, NotaryCam, Pavaso, Stavvy, and BlueNotary)
  3. Notify the Department electronically at www.notaries.pa.gov BEFORE performing your first RON, identifying which technology provider(s) you'll use
  4. Re-notify the Department whenever you add or drop a provider.
  5. Always be physically located in Pennsylvania when performing RON (your signer can be anywhere)

You can find the current list of approved RON vendors on the PA Department of State website. The notification process is straightforward and must be completed before you can legally perform your first remote online notarization.
