A new law passed by Pennsylvania lawmakers will create sweeping changes for notaries.
Under the current Pennsylvania notary law (Act 151 of 2002) notaries appointed and commissioned prior to July 2003 were exempt from the state’s mandatory education requirement. However, with the enactment of new legislation, all new and renewing notaries will be required to complete a state-approved education course and pass an exam. The new law also eliminates the need to have a senatorial endorsement to obtain an appointment. The law is set to become effective within 120 after an official notice is published.
